Etched Pan

March 9, 2009 By Chris Durnan

This pan sat on my counter for 6 weeks waiting to try my hand at this. I hope to make a few gifts over the next year using this technique. I will be checking the dollar stores for glass pans with lids. I used the etching cream and cut a design on Contact Paper using my Wishblade. The etching cream said to leave it on for 5 minutes. I left it on about 8 and when I wiped it off, it was very light – so I reapplied and left it on for 30 minutes.. The bottle says that some Pyrex may not etch. This pan was Pyrex and leaving it on longer worked fine.

I used a design from Chris’ file challenge due March 7th. You may not recognize it because I just used the outline – all of the swirlies would have been difficult with the thin contact paper and cutting it so small. I may try it with the swirlies when I have a sharp blade. I was being lazy and didn’t want to sharpen it first. *smile* If I’d had to sharpen the blade first, it may have set there another 6 weeks. LOL

Using latest addition to QMC files

March 8, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Here’s another great file that Chris has just added to this quarter of the QMC. It is called Grandma and is a beautiful frame incorporating the word “Grandma” with lots of gorgeous scrolls.

I had to create the perfect picture for this one. Recently my mother went to Japan to visit my youngest sister, her husband and their new, or not quite so new, baby boy, Luke. Mum had taken lots of scenery photos whilst being shown around Japan, but the best photo of her and her new grandson was taken in the kitchen which was a terrible background. So I cleaned up the pic of Mum, Chris and Luke and then placed it on the gorgeous scenery of a Japanese temple. Then I topped it off with this gorgeous frame! I am very pleased with the finished result!

Thanks for looking,

cheers, caz

Mar09 Sketch Challenge and more

March 7, 2009 By Chris Durnan

The new Sketch Challenge for this month has been posted, scroll down for more info, and this is my submission for it. This months sketch is in card format and so I have created the front of a card digitally using some of the free files available for signing up in the challenge. I have also used some files from a digital scrap kit I designed and some graphics from digiwebstudios.

I am really pleased with the way this turned out. I love the colours and the files that Chris provided (heart, scalloped paper and paper strip) were easy to use.

The next layout I have created includes photos of my son at his 9th Birthday party at McDonalds. How could I resist using Chris’s “Party Hardy” file and one of the latest files added to last quarters QMC, “Burgers and Fries”. If you didn’t join this Club, then make sure you don’t miss out on this quarter, it has just been uploaded to the Store. This layout was also created in Photoshop digitally.

Have a great day wherever you are! Thanks for looking!

cheers, caz

New QMC is up in the store…with early bird files for a limited time.

March 6, 2009 By Chris Durnan

The new QMC is up in the store for April through June. You can get to it from the image on the right or here. There are three early bird files that if you purchase the membership early (in the first week it is n the store) you will get those early files as well.

And next… If you are interested in Cards and like to take on a Challenge. Rosalie is running a new sketch challenge in the forum. And I think Sarah is going to run a Card Swap that goes with it. So much fun. Lots of inspiration in last months sketch challenge. The files to create are still loaded to the forum if you want to try the last few months.

As for me I am off to setup more files for the current QMC.

Have a wonderful day and a wonderful weekend!

Enjoy!

Chris

Snow Princess

March 6, 2009 By Chris Durnan

This is a layout about my daughter during one of the big snow storms of the season this year. I used the crown from the Queen for A Day file of Chris’s to create the title along with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and some glitter from Martha Stewart. The crown wasin several pieces which allowed me to use just the parts that I needed. I wanted something simple. The Ponsettias are from the dollar store and sprayed with Glimmer Mist as well.

Wow. School Pics.

March 4, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Wow times have changed. We got school pictures back yesterday. I am always so impressed by this companies pictures. I just look at them and think? These are school pictures. What? I can remember having to hold little signs with the number on it on our lap for our school pictures. Reminiscent of a Jail Picture with numbers across the bottom only a pretty blue background, your best Sunday outfit and your head itching from the tight curlers your Mom made you sleep in the night before. I have a feeling there was no numbers on my sons lap in this one. Well here is our pride and joy and his grin that makes my day.

And the story of the morning before pictures. So I am thinking about the infamous school picture smile and so I tell my Son. “Thinking about things that make you giggle and smile when they tak your picture because then your eyes will smile too.” I told him “instead of saying Cheese.. You could say I Love My Mom. ” And that should make you smile right? He started giggling… and giggling and I am looking in the rear view mirror and I say. WHAT?? He said “Mom your crazy. ” I had to ponder this. And smile because if it makes him smile and giggle when he says I love My mom then they will be great pictures. Or wait… Was he giggling because he said “Mom Your Crazy” ahhh.. well I think we wil let it ride.. I love to hear his giggle and know later in life he will think I am crazy. Just as long as I can still see that winning smile. He and my hubby always make my day.

Enjoy!

Chris

If you’ve got Lemons….

March 3, 2009 By Chris Durnan

I visited a blog recently that had a picture a day. I don’t know if I could keep up with that, but this is what you would see on my counter this morning. My hubby has cleaned off the Lemon tree. Here are some of the Lemons that I need to figure out what to do with. Thinking about Juicing them and freezing. What do you think? Any creative ideas? I’ll take them.

It’s a short post today because I am working on quite a few things at once.
Have a wonderful day!!!!
Enjoy!

This was my effort for the Challenge that Chris was running on her Blog where you can get a heap of files for free for signing up and then you have to use at least one of them in a layout and email her the result. I used a windmill and a star frame file out of the selection.

This is the result. These are some photos from around the old farmhouse we are renting! I have never had so many flowers 🙂

Although this layout was created in paper and card, I did use my computer to de-saturate the main photo and print it out on my card. I also used my computer to print out my photos!

Thanks for looking, have a great day wherever you are!

cheers, caz

Challenge files: Sierra 11th grade portrait

March 3, 2009 By Chris Durnan

This was for participation in the VDBC February sketch challenge – love those!! The bracket square and the tab are from the sketch files. I also used the stars file from the challenge files due March 7th. Pulled the idea from her shirt. I still need to add one finishing touch… I need a mustard colored button with red thread at the end of the bottom rick rack to finish out my visual triangle.
Supplies:
*Cardstock
*Patterned Papers: Basic Grey Recess line
*I used brown shoe polish applied with a foam pad to give some of the papers a bit of an aged look.
*Popdotted a couple of punches stars and added a few smaller punched stars amongst the star frame.
*Buttons tied with DMC thread, brads, rick rack
* Girls are Weird Sizzlet font for the “11th”
