Mom Pride: Karate

September 5, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Last night went to Karate with D. He was so excited he was vibrating.  They were on a 2 week break. Talked to the Sensei and he is being bumped a class “because of his focus” and adding sparring… now he was vibrating and jabbering all the way home. His excitement makes me laugh I just love it. He got home and Greg asked .. what did you do? .. his response… “nothing. I don’t remember”. haha. what is that nothing word? a 35 minute drive home and he can’t remember. Thank goodness we get emails from the teacher every day with what he did or I would wonder what they did at school every day.
This photo is of Dr. D and his buddy when they earned their new belts and jumped a bunch of belts in between. My  friend Julie and I were freaking out when they didn’t get the next belt because we know how they both are soo into it. We were remaining calm. So calm. But finally after they made it through three sets of belts and we realized that they had jumped all those belts in the middle. We were pretty proud of them. But what a way to add the drama and anticipation. Wew. We could see our boys with their heads dropped thinking they hadn’t passed their testing. And then they were beaming! Yeahooodie.
I couldn’t be more proud of our son. This is “his” thing. I drive him back and forth. It is something I step back and fully let  him decide where he wants to be in it. I provide the ride and the $ for the class. He practices regularly without my prompting and asks if we are going on the weeks we have off. I love it and his “focus” on it.
Well that is my mom Pride post today.  Filled with a lot of “nothing” haha. What is it with that word.
I just love my life. It is “everything”.
Enjoy!

1st QMC file for Sept-Nov 2012. Last day for $9.00

September 4, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I loaded the first QMC file to the forum. And it is a piece of Subway Art you can cut in vinyl or open in your graphics program and print on a card for a gift. Use all the pieces together in one tall sign for a bedroom. Or use it in pieces to emphasize that little boy you love.
Today, Tuesday the 4th is the last day you can join the QMC for $9.00.  This Membership club is full of all new files to be cut by you. $10.00 for 20 files and they have many possibilities and cuts and come in many formats. If you have multiple machines, you can use them with my files. (And it would be nice to know I am not the only one with ahhh… a few machines.. we’ll just say a few. hah) AND don’t forget the perks section.. currently there are 29 files there in various forms and topics for the current QMC members to enjoy!
Enjoy!

I bought this necklace a couple of weeks ago when we were in Green Bay. It’s very nice, but I wanted to do something to make it more personal.

I decided to make a charm to go on the necklace. I printed a picture of us at the practice field and cropped it to 1″x1″. I picked up the charm holder at Wal-Mart of all places.

For the other side, I cut Chris’s “G” file from her Green Bay Packers collection and put it on a piece of yellow cardstock. I added a lobster clasp and a green bead.

I added the charm to the ring with the other charms, and now I have a personalized necklace with a photo from our trip.

You can find Chris and all her wonderful files here. And guess what I saw in her store tonight – the newest QMC! Go check it out!!

How Small can you go??

August 30, 2012 By Chris Durnan

The Question is when cutting a monogram for a tile… how small can you go!! 2×2 from 10×10 not to bad. Some easy cutting for great holiday gifts. ..   I had to do the "Quarter Shot" Everyone does the quarter shot. haha. My son said I was weird.  Why would you take a photo of a quarter on top of a cut?  I love how I make his eyes roll.

If you scroll down you can see the cut on a tile in big size.

How small have you cut a big impossible looking file?

Enjoy!

Milestone Blockheads :-)

August 25, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Welcome to the Card A Day Blog Visitors. I have a cool card I found in the gallery at VDBC. This is by Kelly. Kelly has created some phenomenal crafts with my files and this card is no exception.

The theme on Card A Day Blog is Milestone Birthdays. Well in my little ones life every year so far has been a milestone as we watch him develop and learn new things and become so much of his own person. (We tend to equate Milestones with an older set of Age 40-50-60. Yikes. I don’t even want to think about my 40 next year. It’s gonna be fun!! ) And for us these little blocks that kill our feet along the way as we step on them have come in every size and make. He even entered his own display in the fair! Pretty cool. Enough bragging. I know I apologize.

This is my Mr. Blockyhead file. Which Kelly added her own take to for her nephew.

This is the outside of the card…

This is the inside of the card.

Thank you Kelly!!!! for all you do and sharing it with us in the gallery!!! Beautiful Work and Fun Work as always.  (You can find Kelly on my facebook VDBC page if you want to ask her any questions about her project.)

If you want to make your own “Blockhead” card or display. the file can be found here.

The sad thing is I know when my son says it is time to find a new home for these little pieces of foot torture… I will know that he is reallllly growing up and moving on. I will be proud of him, but I am sure I will wish for those misfortunate steps in the dark of ouch!

Have a wonderful day!
Enjoy!

Rambling thoughts of creatitivity….

August 24, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I saw this image on the “Science Alert” page for facebook. They had shared it from this page. ScienceIllustrated.com.au

This is the description of what it is… and the creator. Thank you to M. Hausser for such inspiration.

Computer simulated pyramidal cells in the hippocampus. These cells are thought to be involved in spatial memory and other cognitive functions. Image: M. Hausser/ UCL/ Wellcome Images.

And of course… I had no idea this was cells in the hippocampus. I found the whole thing very interesting althought I couldn’t wrap my mind it all. But then as my mind rambles….

I began to look at it and think. wow… it looks like those color drawings where you color the page and then color black over it and then scratch it out. And wow the strands look like fibers for scrapbooking or crocheting yarn and then the colors. wow. such awesome color combinations. This is a swatch I came up with.

But it isn’t even close to what I wanted it to be for this color combination.

So that is my rambling mind on a Friday morning. Before I head to volunteer at the school. Wow. My brain loves to craft and now I know what the cells of a hippocampus are. wooohoo!! I can wow my son with my knowledge and I place mark the page here on my blog because he will tell me I made it all up without proof. And his budding 8 year old Science mind needs proof of everything and detailed information.  haha. love him! Our goal as parents has always been to answer every Why with something. My husband is the “best” at this and if he can’t come up with the actual “Why” it’s research time. Love that man!
Have a wonderful day everyone! and weekend! Enjoy!

#CD00934 from August grab bag

August 21, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I used the Fall leaves from Visual Designs by Chris (File #CD00934 which is a part of the August grab bag).  I stamped the leaves with a scripty word stamp using a dark brown ink.  The sponged the edges with some tea dye ink from Tim Holtz.  Pop dotted the leaves and added a little bling from Michael’s.  Layed some other die cut leaves that I had in my Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving bin.   Used a Bazzill sewing template and crochet thread to create the blowing of the leaves.  A McGill punch for the tab.  Handwrote the title “Thanksgiving 2011” with a micron pen.  Patterned paper is Paper Studio.  Added a little ummmpphh with layering a Tim Holtz die cut.  I had created the little note cards and had everyone write what they were thankful for.

Card using CD00750

August 21, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I created this card as a thank you for some friend’s who let us use their Lake house for vacation a few weeks ago.  The cutter file was perfect (#CD00750 from Visual Designs by Chris).  Pretty simple, just added jute rope for a rustic look.
