QMC, things I remembered and realized on vacation.. life..

June 26, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Business first… I am taking the QMC with early bird files for July-Sept out of the store this weekend and putting up the straight QMC for the remainder. If you want to join and get more files for the dollars then now is the time to join and quickly!

And now on to life…

Our view from the hotel balcony in CA. Very nice

Lots of fun for sure.

Things I realize and remembered on vacation…

-You should always put sunblock on your lips. If you don’t yowser you will have a swollen lip. Apparently I won’t need lip injections. My lip felt huge. my hubby said WOW (with an evil grin) when I woke up when morning and could feel my lip was swollen. So I chased him around the suite with my scary lip and a pillow. I’ll Pow him with the pillow for that wow.
-I love my family! My in laws include me so much they feel like my family and are my family it is wonderful!
– I may have been thinking about getting cable again, but after one weekend of it and watching my son watch. I still don’t want cable tv.
– I really love my home. We were so happy to get home!
– It is hard not to check email every day. Thank goodness for my blackberry. (Yes Lori I am addicted)
– I miss those I chat with in the forum regularly.
– I am digging the fruity martinis.
– I forgot to take the QMC down with the early bird files before I left So I will be taking it down the weekend I get back.
– I love to hang out with my hubby and my son. We just have fun together.
– I love to only hit one theme park on vacation and take it easy for the rest.
– Love to watch my hubby and son interact with new experiences. Like feeding Sea Otters and Stingrays. So fun.
– I love my digital camera. I panicked because I thought mine got wet and wasn’t going to work. Ended up being a dead battery. So I snagged an “old school” disposable for half of the sea world day. I let my son use up the rest of the pics. So I am interested to see what he came up with in shots.
– I am bummed I didn’t sketch out my ideas and am trying to get them down in thoughts today before I forget them all.
– I for the first time ever loved the bed at the place we stayed. My hubby and I decided we might call and ask them what brand mattress was in the room because it was the first ever we both loved. Can you tell we need a new mattress.
– I love my nieces. Their giggles and smiles just make my day. To hear them giggle in a fit of exhaustion at the end of the day was the best!!!
– My hubby is fun to share a nice dinner with. And my son is the best for dealing with it by being good and hanging out with us when he’d rather run like mad and play.
– Life is awesome! Love my life.

And now I am off to get the horses ready and loaded for the evening and meet my hubby at the Team Sorting with trailer, child and horses in tow.

Have a great weekend!!
Enjoy!
Chris

Father’s Day Card 2009 using #CD00546

June 22, 2009 By Chris Durnan

This is theFather’s Day card I made for Jeff this year. The girls have always enjoyed his stories… not just fishing, but all sorts of stories that supposedly have happened in his life. There may be a “thread” of truth. I had each of them write something about how they enjoy his stories. It was pretty touching. Sierra (age 17) wrote that she’ll never be too old for a bedtime story and Savannah (age 14) wrote that she likes that he talks smack. LOL

This is a Visual DeSigns by Chris file #CD00546. Cut with my Wishblade. I added a close-up photo hoping you can see the detail. Love details!! I masked off the fish to grunge up the words using a Van Dyke charteuse ink and a water mister. Inked the edges with a little Van Dyke brown. Painted the ‘frame” part of the image with a bit of gold Pearls. Unmasked the fish and painted it with two colors of Twinkling H2Os. Added a little pole, a rhinestone for the eye and a few stitch marks. Pretty easy and it really didn’t take too long. Oh, yeah, Jeff had just restrung a reel that Friday night so I dug the fishing line out of the trash and used it as ribbon. It didn’t want to tie well but a few glue dots did the trick.

Blue Bird

June 22, 2009 By Chris Durnan

OK, so I had the other half of that funky border from the challenge file to use and this is where it wound up. “A Little Bird Told Me” is a file by Beloved Keepsakes a good friend of Chris. My next door neighbors have blue bird houses in their back yard and every year they have several families use the houses. I found the feather on the card this year in my driveway and picked it up to give to them. When I saw Lori’s file I knew I had to use it for a card for my neighbors. And when I made the envelope the same pink as my funky border, well, it was destiny – lol. I just love that funky border!!!

Oh, on the inside I wrote “What great neighbors I have.” 🙂

A Card for the June Challeng

June 21, 2009 By Chris Durnan

I incorporated 3 of Chris’s files for this card. And yes it is Father’s Day and I’m just making the card – lol. I called my Dad today and told him his card was coming late and that I didn’t have time to make him one this year. I actually bought one yesterday. I’m going to send it too since I love the sentiment in it. Any hooo back to this one. I used the June Challenge file funky border but cut a piece off of it. I also used “Hay Happy Father’s Day (CD00548) with some modifications and “You’re Gonna What? (CD00513). My Dad raises cows so I like to use them on his cards and I love how this one looks – lol. And of course I had to use the “Hay” because I’m from the south and that’s how we say “hello” to everyone – lol. The inside has the “Happy Father’s Day frame from the “Hay” file. I cut the Horse head off (forgive me Chris – lol). I love how it turned out. The funky border looks like confetti to me. Thanks for looking.

A view of the beach….

June 21, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Hey Folks… I type to you today from a window overlooking the ocean. We are having a wonderful time so far. Although I am worried about our little family of animals at home our house/pet sitter and friend says they are doing just fine. So that means… Off to the beach we head as soon as all the nieces and my kiddo get it all together. Oh no wait. That is as soon as I finish something with caffeine in it. I just wanted to stop in and check a few emails before we head out to the beach for the day. Have a wonderful weekend!!

Enjoy!

party Hats, father’s day… and off we go..

June 18, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Here is my kiddo and my niece celebrating my birthday with party hats! Aren’t they cute! My Aunt is a big party hat fan. Me… hmmm… Not so much. It just emphasizes the fact that I could have a few pounds to lose because now the string on the hat has caused a roll under my chin. Wow. Under my chin. Yes I am not really a party hat person. There has to be a phobia name for that. We had wonderful Salmon for dinner and Gluten Free Chocolate Cake freshly made by my Mom. was wonderful!! Went home tired and happy.

So today we went shopping for the Father’s Day gift. We will be out of town for Father’s Day so my kiddo has decided he wants to give Dad his Father’s Day present early. because well…. We have a playstation 2 here. He and I wandered through the store over and over front to back and have been searching for the perfect gift for a weeek or two now when we go to the store. He finally settled on an old PS2 star wars game and was adamant it was the one he wanted to get for Dad. And to go along with the theme found a card that plays the star wars theme song. And some may worry that I am posting this and my hubby will read it. He has told me many times he doesn’t read my blog because…… :::drumroll please:::: HE LIVES IT! :: what’s he trying to say? I could take that negatively. but I think I will just take it at face value. he lives it. So he must love it as much as me. haha. Maybe not the PMSy parts, but I can’t stand those parts either. But anyways. my son is proud of his choices and he just sat down and wrote Dad on the front envelope all by himself and his name in the inside. and I did a little tweaking to the card so it says Happy Father’s Day to Dad and not Happy Father’s Day to a son. because it had the right star wars music and we haddddd to get it. haha. so I am waiting for the Marker to dry. Why do kids love Marker so much? Kinds like when someone gets their nails done and blows on it. but I am inhaling marker fumes and waving it and praying it will dry some time soon so I can put it in the envelope. The game has been wrapped. It has been wrapped in two pieces of bright yellow drawing paper with packaging tape and blue painter’s tape (because I use this on my cutters we have a lot of blue tape around here) It really is a work of art in itself. I think the yellow paper may even be taped to the packaging wrap for the game. hmmm. I might have to video tape the hubby opening this and post it on here. haha.

anyways. it has been a great week and I have been taking it easy as June was supposed to be my month of rejuvenation. I have my little notebook packed for sketching on our trip. I am very excited for some time with family. our plans include sea world, San Diego model train museum, beach, seafood dinners, maybe seaport village and just being together. can’t wait. So I will chat with you all when I get back.

Lots of folks in the forum to answer any questions. I can’t wait to see all the cutter file challenge entries when I get back. If you have any questions, I will return them when I get home.

Have a wonderful weekend!
Enjoy!
Chris

Cat Tails and Reeds card

June 15, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Here is a card I made using Chris’s CatTails and Reeds cutter file. I love this file, it is so versatile. Here is it on the front of a card, but it would just as gorgeous as a mat on a scrapbooking page, take away the frame and you have a very effective border for a layout!.

I sponged the background of the card which gave me a lovely mottled background and used textured cardstock for the reeds, cattails and the setting sun! It is very effective and the photo doesnt really do it justice.

Thanks for looking,

Have a great day wherever you are!

cheers, caz

Guess what???

June 15, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Tomorrow is my birthday my birthday!!!

I have been doing this now for almost a year… The Wishlist Giveaways!

I though to celebrate I would pull a few more wishlists and send them their files. I will be posting them in the forum.

Unfortunately, I cannot send other designer’s files out (I am not sure they would appreciate that haha), but will pick a few of my own to send for those who have made a wishlist. So make sure your list is up to date and you don’t have to many you have already purchased on there.

I like to give files away so it is fun to be able to do when I know exactly what someone wants. And it is my bday! So what a better way to celebrate!!

Enjoy!Chris
