View Full Version : October 2009 Sketch Challenge

Are you ready for a new sketch? This month is a little different; I choose a round sketch. We are also thinking so square: Break out of your box and see what you can do with a circle. The sketch is provided by Becky Fleck at Pagemaps (http://www.pagemaps.com/) If you like this one, She has seveal more round sketches. Be sure to check them out. Remember, The rules are pretty simple:
1. Use this sketch as an inspiration for a project. 2. Post your completed project here in this thread for us all to enjoy. That's it, simple as can be.

Remember the previous month's sketches and files are still available for you to go back and grab embellishments if you need them for other projects.

I would suggest you add your project to the new albums section. I hear there is going to be prizes!

To celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Visual Designs by Chris,
I am offering a small prize this month as an added incentive. Complete this challenge by Sunday Oct 4 to be entered into a drawing for a prize from me. I will ship it anywhere in the US or Canada (since 1/2 my family is Canadian).

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this sketch.

Rosalie

Found these photos of my kids taken almost exactly 2 years apart. Everyone's hair is longer.... Including Ben's!

My supplies were from a kit that was given to me. I don't know the details. Sorry.

Get going on those projects! You have until Sunday or I might have to buy myself a RAK. :D

Here's mine

Toffie and Mollie (http://visualdesignsbychris.com/forum/album.php?albumid=26&pictureid=268)

we have had Mollie, our Boxer pup for 10mths and we decided that she needed a friend to play with. So we found Toffie (12mth old Fox Terrier/Corgi cross) at the pound. She was the only dog we looked at that didnt shy away from Mollie and puts up with her play. They get on so well, and even sleep in the one bed although it is crowded!

OK, so I sat down with me 3 picts.
Found papers that might work.
Then maybe I got cocky?
First I cut out my circle with the CM 12" circle pattern.
Forgot that I'm using true 12x12 paper with non-true 12x12 pages - so now I must trim (and make my circle not centered, arrgh).
Line my circle back up with the patterned paper and put adhesive down, oh nuts now my adhesive is on the wrong side and I used a lot (sigh).
Peel off adhesive and put on other side, stick down.
Long story short, peel it up quite a few times to get circles cut out of the same papers, etc....
No wonder the edges of my circle look all beat up - can you even tell there are two different papers? Solid circle and patterned outside?

Anyways - the papers are all from the CM "Bloom" paper pack.
Thanks for looking - perhaps I should call it a day!

Yuk, Amar-- I fe-eeelll your pain! I have had those moments, and it seems like the more you went at it, to fix it, the more went wrong.. so.. I learned to push back my chair.. go throw a load in the washer, take a walk, put on some coffee, or just whatever needed to be done, to get away from there!! LOL! Step away, take some breaths, and go back at it when you can enjoy it, and it not become a 'job'.

I hear you Melody, but I only get so much time to work without the kiddos - so I felt that I had to "get'er'done" - hopefully I'll still like it tomorrow, and if I don't, it's still one page completed, right?!
Thanks!

Oh my goodness, Amar, that sounds just like what I've been going through the last 2 nights trying to make this circle thing work for me using some papers that matched the last layout I did...EVERYTHING is going wrong with it. It looks like junk, but know what...I'm moving on to the next challenge, this one I didn't do so well on! LOL OK, let me see if I can even take a pic of it tonight, seriously, it's junk!

Thanks girls, the small pic does it justice, but in real life this BIG CIRCLE  jumps out at me! And I have used flowers to cover mistakes, and I ruined the one piece of paper I had that I wanted to use for the circle, and it was probably midnight at the time...went to bed and the next morning I thought "what the heck, on to other things"!!! Ok, I think I really need the owl in a tree file. That is too cute! I love how the pumpkin was used in place of the circle, that was a twist.

I made this for a friend, so that's why there is no title or photo yet. She will put in her own. I tweaked the sketch a bit, but it was definitely my starting point.

(AS a side note - This file cracks me up too - as I got into trouble at my Christian Private Kindergarten school when I was five for singing the song "Dry Whiskey, Dry Whiskey, Dry Whiskey I cry, If a tree don't fall on me I will live til I die. Dry Whiskey, Dry Whiskey, Dry Whiskey I cry, If the river was Whiskey and I was a duck, I swim to the bottom and drink my way up!!") Bahahaha!!!

Bottle of wine fruit of the vine when you gonna let me get sober... leave me alone... let me go home.. let me go home and start over.

hahaha.. We would hang out the window on the dirt side roads looking for animal tracks. singing the song at the top of our little lungs. haha.

Enjoyed seeing the layouts everyone has shared. I started mine today but set it aside to look at it again tomorrow or Monday. It's of my dog who passed away on June 1 so it was a tough layout to work on. Have one more thing to do to my MIYO too.

This layout took me the entire weekend - with 10 minutes here and there. This is the first layout I have been able to do of Abby since she died on June 1st. I guess I wanted it to be perfect. Still not certain about it but ready to move to the next one. No wonder I am so far behind. *smile* This photo was taken on her 8th birthday as she was laying at my feet at the bottom of the bed while I was working from home. I really miss her!

And though it sort of took on a life of it's own, it did start out as the sketch challenge. LOL
