Here is the place and the time to post your ideas for Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Is there something you have created in the past that stood out? Or something you are thinking about making?

Or even the gift you have received that meant the most to you?

This challenge is to help us all get some ideas together for Mother's day and Father's day.

The scope is wide, but will help us get our creative juices flowing!
Enjoy!

So, this is for just an idea? Or do we need to do a completed project? Or a special card? Sorry I sound confused, I'm so tired, had a really long day at work and just had to check what's going on before I jump into bed and have another long day tomorrow.

anything you'd like. I am leaving it open to keep the creative juices flowing.

If you said... hmmm. flowers.. I would tell you to go back to bed. hahaha.

But if you said

Flowers made from paper on those wooden sticks/skewers in a tin pot I found at Target in the dollar section. And put a word in the center of each flower that represents your mom.

Then I would say Yeah!!!!

For instance one year...

I took a box of chocolates.. took them out... I put glue on the back of eachof those little brown candy cup holders to hold them in place. In each spot I cut little pieces of paper and wrote the things that most made me think of my mom. Oh and I gave her the chocolate candies seperate too. Anyways... she has still has that "empty" box in her drawer. I saw it a few weeks ago.

Or you can post your favorite project for Mother's Day Father's Day or your favorite received project. something crafty would be nice.

hope that helps.

Enjoy!
Chris

Last year I made a few "word books". They were a new thing for me.
I did one for an elderly aunt's birthday, but I mailed it with one for my mom since it was close to Mother's Day. In mom's, I wrote a bunch of great memories I have of her from when I was a kid up through my early 20's. She loved it.
The one for my aunt was blank, to use as an autograph book for her birthday party. Even though I couldn't travel halfway across the country to be there, it let her know I cared.
Dad made it clear that he did not want a book with fuzzy yarn. I started one for him, which I hope will be a Father's Day gift this year, but I bent a piece of clothes hanger wire to make it into a spiral notebook, making holes with my Crop A Dile, and skipped the glittery, fuzzy looking yarns.
I still have to come up with an idea for mom for this year, so this thread will be very helpful.

Perfect Lisa and very nice!!!!

A friend of mine did a Dad's word book and went to the hardware store and bought these teeny tiny caribiner's. I have never found them since, but i thought it was great.

Enjoy!

That sounds lots easier than what I did. I chose a stiff clothes hanger for the wire for the spiral. Unfortunately, it was tooooo stiff. I had to wrap it around an oak dowel to get smooth turns, and even then, it was a pain to get it into the holes evenly and then bent at the ends. Never again! It's fuzzy yarn or something soft for me!

I just took a picture of it.

Really nice Books.

I dont think I have ever done word books, I created a file for one for a friend, but I never used it.

I dont have any thing to share for Mothers day or Fathers day.

Good ideas Chris and Lisa. Heres an idea I did a couple of years ago--ok, more than a couple--but it was really cool. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the completed project, it still hangs in my Dad's house! My Dad is an antique car buff--and he owned a '51 cadillac, robin's egg blue. My brother had "inherited it" when my parents moved to AZ from MN. When we (my brother's and my family) were together over the summer, we had T-shirts made with '51 cadillac club or something similar for all the grandchildren, and had a photo shoot with the car and the kids--we did lots of cute photos, with one kid pretending to drive and the other kids waving and blowing kisses, sitting on the hood, standing by it--kids wearing their matching t-shirts and denim shorts. We did a photo collage with a bigger photo of the kids and car and then smaller photos all around it. My Dad loved it--and it still hangs on the wall in his home.

Chris - I love the candy box idea!!! I think I may use that one this year. Guess I'd better get cracking at it!!

I can't think of anything specific I've done for Mother's Day or Father's day except cards. You may all remember teh Barn mini albums I did for Christmas two years ago. Those were a major hit with my Family.

Wow Pam, those ideas and gifts are amazing! So did you use your pen tool for the words on the frame or are they cut files? I'm always looking for cool quotes, sometimes I end up writing something myself. Happy Mom's day to all the Mom's!

I just saw this thread, so thought I would post this idea I did for Mother's Day. A couple of years ago I was making fried marble necklaces, so I decided to use some of the fried marbles (if you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a link).
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=202515.0
I purchased the clear marbles that you find in the floral department of craft stores and then used alcohol inks to color them after cracking them. Put them in a clear vase (recycled) and then picked a few tulips from my yard and put in the vase. It turned out so pretty and was low cost.

I made this for my mom this year and mailed it in a large card. They are sliceform roses by Jennie Bean Crafts. I cut them out of white cardstock and used my copics to color the roses and leaves.

OK...I'm late (having issues with my darn internet again....I'll be changing providers next week!!)...but here's my MOM presents this year!! I'm making two (one for my mom and one for my mother in law). These are made out of envelopes (VERY easy to make), and inside each envelope is a card with the top note die on each side (you can see the ribbon that you use to pull them out). Since there are three envelopes, we (me, my husband and our son) are each going to write a short note to each mom/grandmother and on the other side I'm going to put a picture of mom and whoever together. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right....in other words, for my mom's card, I will write a short note to my mom and on the reverse side, I will put a pic of my mom and me together (and the other two envelopes will hold my husband's and son's note and pictures). And we will do the same for my mother in law's! I'm really excited!!

Thanks everyone!! I actually like the one I made today better! LOL

Chris - great idea about the chocolates!! My mom is diabetic, so she doesn't need them anyway!

Lisa - great wordbooks! I love making them too!

Pam - they are beautiful! Are they cutting files?? What did you put them on...just cardstock or something else?

Carol - I've never heard of fried marbles before....very interesting and BEAUTIFUL!! After "frying" them, and dunking them in the ice water, is that when you color them? What's the best way?

Ginger - BEAUTIFUL roses! I've bought a couple of her files....they are VERY detailed and intricate!

Happy Mother's Day everyone!!

Sarah, no it was a while back, and it was a class at my store, I think it took 7 envelopes, then we just decorated them with printed papers and cardstock, and pretty stickers and embellishments. Made a chipboard cover by attaching one at each end, tied together with a pretty ribbon. I gave it away or else I'd try to find it, I know I made several, Oh, I made one for my DD Sarah when we toured the first vet clinic she worked at, of course I took pics and used cat & dog paper theme. I work next week at the SBstore, I'll see if there is still one there, most of our old class projects are haning out somewhere. I would have to think about how I attached the envelopes together...hummm.

Yes, Sarah I colored the marbles after they were cracked and dried. Just put a few drops of alcohol ink on the felt pad and then roll the marble on it. I made sure to wear rubber gloves, otherwise you might have rainbow fingers.

I know this said it was over the 5th, but I still have to plan a card for my dad for this year!

I made a special card and matching envelope for my mom this year. All the decorations are VDBC files, but the base card was a National Scrapbooking Day challenge freebie from Jan at Sam and Hailey Designs.

Details are below the photo here:

Mom was so pleased that she took it to church yesterday to show her best friends. :D
