Hi all--so sorry I'm late posting this challenge! It's my first one.
I'm challenging every one to use a cut file and give it a FOLK ART VIBE! Think Russian, Americana, Aborigine, anything you can give a folk art feel to.
Everyone who participates will get a FREE digital stamp (I'm making something cute up), and I'll also give a FREE cutting file to the Winner(s). The more who participate the more you will have a chance of winning--so make up as much as you want. The cutting file can be one of your choice or an upcoming release.

Hugs,
Kristal

This sounds interesting--but alas, I know I won't have time--between grad party, work all week and a 4 day intensive class--plus Dad's day and 2 BD cards to make--no way! But I'll be watching this one with interest--sounds very cool!

Kristal,

This sounds super interesting. Do you have some home made examples of what Folk art means.

Im not really sure what this requires.

I wont be able to do it as im leaving for vacation, But im sure if you can post some examples. Others might be willing to give it ago and learn some thing new.

I cant wait to see what yalll come up with.

Kristal, do we need to use a file from one of the designers here or just any file?

ANY file you want--it's just a bit of fun.
Don't worry if you can't participate--I know it's a busy time. But if you can, jump right in and join us! Let's get funky and folksy!@

Here are my entries: Russian Folk Art nesting dolls: matryoshkas. I made each one of them a bit different. I'm in the process right now of making a nesting doll book for my two nieces. They get bigger as the book is opened.
Here are just my three quick ones for this challenge--I made these using My Babushka (http://www.visualdesignsbychris.com/store/product.php?productid=17269&cat=0&page=1)cuttiing file set.

Well, I'm stretching it a bit by entering it in Folk Art, but this is about as close as I can come. My dh is a woodworker, and tonight I snapped a few pics of items around the house and made this layout. I used Chris' double wedding ring file, from June 09 I think.

Kristal Love your dolls. And the pattern paper is beautiful.

Pam, As usual, your layouts blow me away, Love the colors, and style. And your husbands wood work warms my heart. I used to be a wood worker.

Im lost as to what excatly is "Folk art" So dont know if I have some thing to post or not.

Is it more artsy or just old looking or some thing else. Help me out here. I might be able to post some thing before I leave in an hour.

Okay, here is my go at this, As yall know, I dont do scrapbooking layouts that often so here goes.

This is back in 2006 when I first learned to scrapbook, so these pages arent that great, Its a mini album I again started and didnt finish, only got 6 8x8 pages done, and have about 60 more pictures to add. And probably never will.

I love this tag, the eyelash red white and blue fibers remind me of fire works.

And on the next tag, is a flag made of beads. Love it, I did these tags for a tag swap when I first started.

Okay, yall, im closing down and heading out. Yall have a great week if I cant get access to the net in the woods.

Yeah, Sharon, we are in!!!! LOL Good job on the mini album.
The wood bowls have been inspried by a book he picked up in a wood store in AZ, he's been studying it constantly trying to figure out the patterns and the math it takes to cut and stack the wood. He's made lots of mistakes, but he's learned so much! And most people don't even notice the mistakes! Making things out of exotic woods is rarther $$$$$. So you hate to make too many mistakes! I know you can't read the journaling, but it all started in the 70's, we needed a bigger, sturdy table, so he bought some woodworking tools and made one from a pic of a trestle table in an Ethan Allen catalog. Back then I did all the sanding and finish work, makes my hands hurt too much now, even scrapping does when I'm in a marathon mood! LOL

I tried my hand at Aboriginal dot painting digitally... let me tell you ... this is quite hard LOL

G'Day (http://visualdesignsbychris.com/forum/album.php?albumid=26&pictureid=778)

I have used CD00516 (http://www.visualdesignsbychris.com/store/product.php?productid=16358&cat=0&page=1) for the ribbon on my card. Styles have been added to the elements on my card. I used a small brush to recreate the dots for my dot painting.... can you see my Kangaroo!!

Not sure if this qualifies as Folk Art, but this challenge was so intriguing, I just had to try. I made this card using 4 Iris Quilt Squares, a design from BGlad Papercrafts. I sanded the edges and added some chalking to make it look a little worn. Yes, I know these are not Iris colors, :D

Esther,
I love your quilt blocks---what a great idea! I just recently found out about iris folding--I had never tried it till I went on the cruise to the bahamas--and did a palm tree.
Isn't it addicting?

Thanks Sheri and Kristal.

This quilt is just a paper piecing, but I love, love, love Iris Folding and it's what originally got me started with card making. I almost did a Sunbonnet Sue Iris Fold for this challenge but ran out of time :-(

well - I miss posting my a day. I had this finished except for the final touches last night.

I also tried to do a quilt like pattern. I used a punch I have. I added an old button and flower charms to the center so I can use it for a challenge at ACP too.

Girls--i've been locked out of the forum for 2 days--sometimes it will log me on but send me right back to a blank page--that's why I've been MIA!! GEESH!
Everyone's projects are awesome--I love all the quilt piecing I(it's hilarious that they use the term paper piecing in quilting too-hah). Iris folding is absolutely ADDICTING!!! I just found out about it, and did a palm tree, it was fun.
I'm in the process of a file with a folk art vibe--after I finish July's Grab Bag and Hippo Splash--I'll finish it up and EVERYONE who participated in this challenge, will be receive it for FREE!! Will you please just send me a private message with your email so I can send it to you? Caz, Esther, Nancy, and anyone who else who did this challenge. PS please send your email and your cutting machine format.

Yes, but he's cutting and stacking, so it's not as much as you think, the ebony is $$$. He ran into trouble on this next one, he's using paduk, which is an orange wood, and the glue is not holding it together. So now he has to figure out how to solve the problem, he's learning as he goes. ;)
