Cool Fiskars tool!!

December 21, 2009 By Chris Durnan

All right here is a new tool that I love. I bought it at the grocery store in the scrapbook aisle! Yes I Love the grocery store to. My hands ache in the cold and I find it easier to hold fatter items. When I hold my exacto knife at times it causes issues. I just can’t manuaver it right. And this little tool is nice. I cut a lot of preglittered stock and I didn’t want to hash my mat or my blade so I didn’t want to run it max depth and max thickness. So this little knife by fiskars really helped me to manuever quickly those cuts that just needed a little more oomph after I pulled the paper off the mat. It is by Fiskars and fits over the finger. I loved it. And the perk is it will hang on my tool magnet. Love that! I love things to be reachable and not crammed in a drawer.

Please ignore my fat little fingers. I have fat little fingers to match my barney rubble toes. So at least I am balanced. My fingers end up in horse hair, glue, dog hair, kid hair, buttoning jeans, vinyl cutting… I can’t do the long nails. I know they would look wonderful, but I just like to get dirty and don’t want to worry about getting my nails done. so needless to say my hubby loves them so tis all that matters!!
I love this little tool!
Enjoy!

New Circut software.. make the cut

December 20, 2009 By Chris Durnan

I emailed with the developer of the Make The Cut! software this morning and he gave me his blessing to start a yahoo group. He and I discussed different tutorials and other things. I know many are trying to work through the program. Here is a link to the group while we wait for yahoo to add it to their directory and we can discuss how it works and it’s potential. We all know I am a software addict. So I couldn’t resist.

Gingerbread Houses and Teacher Gifts.. so much fun..

December 17, 2009 By Chris Durnan

Yesterday was so much fun.. first we went to school and I hung out and we made Gingerbread houses. So much fun. I left smelling like frosting even after I had washed hands arms and shirt about 5 times. My son was busy busy with his creation and I had been coach for a few of the kids in his class so I knew them already and got to check out their houses. It was so much fun. We were short on plastic knives so you used the back of spoons. The best part was when I said “I had so much fun I think that was one of my favorite days.” My son replied with “It was one of my favorites because you were there” a dramatic pause as I soak it in and how I just love my son, my life.. and then .. “so Mom… wanna talk about Star Wars?” Wew star wars again… Moment is over, but alas it was there. And I am glad he is still excited to have me help in class.

I know some of you are in that last minute crunch for gifts for the teacher. here are two super easy things you can do or have your child do. First off we did our teachers names. I also have a cricut so I wrote the spellings down for my son and had him type it in and cut the letters with a shadow. then I gave them to him with glue and he glued them together. (I used the glue that doesnt dry immediately so I could smoosh them a little straighter when he wasn’t looking. Yes I know neurotic nervosa here) Then we let them lay over night because it was bedtime, but the next night I gave him some magi-card snippets which are magnets that have adhesive on them to attach to business cards. We cut ours in to strips and pieces to put on the back of the letters. twas easy to do. The teacher and assistant were so pleased to get them and put them right up on the board at school and the assistant was so excited to take it home and put it on her fridge so her girls could learn to spell their last name.

And the notecards… I cut some white card stock and gave my son a stamp to stamp them as straight as possible. And then I cut some dark card stock to be a mat for the white. When he was done stamping. We used the glue runner to attach the two. I had envelopes in my “collection” of supplies. So I put them together and tied them with the ribbon. The teachers were happy to receive these to.
I had the little bags also in my “collection” which I put the letters in. We put them in white gift bags which my son wrote their names on.
The best parts: My son being crafty with me, his excitement to give something he made, his excitement to see them up on the board, and his being thrilled when the teachers and assistant gave him hugs and said thank you. Just wonderful.
Well I better run…..
Have a wonderful day!
Enjoy!

Calendar Swap my finished sets.

December 16, 2009 By Chris Durnan

I was going through pictures and wasn’t sure if I had posted this. Sandra and Sarah posted a calendar swap in the forum. 2 6×6 layouts for facing pages. Here is mine for March. The shamrock spins per my sons request. I did two sets so I could have some for gifts. I cannot wait to get them and put them together. I am sure I will have a hard time parting with them. But Sandra’s comment that she uses the title pages for a scrapbook when the year was over got me to thinking about who could use a predone scrapbook in my life and could just cover the calendar itself with pictures. We shall see who ends up with them. in the meantime. I just can’t wait to get them. so thankful for the ladies in the forum hosting the swaps. I will post a picture on Christmas break so the recipient doesn’t see it here. woohoo! Enjoy!

Burning off Cookie Frosting Sugar!!

December 14, 2009 By Chris Durnan

We went to my sister’s for cookie decorating on Saturday afternoon. Here is a picture of my kiddo and my cutey niece playing around. I love to hear them giggle. This was before everyone showed up. So cute! Plastic fruit just makes happy kids!!

This is my niece at the end of the cookie decorating. She had quite a bit of frosting in her area of the table.

This is the table full of kiddos.

And my niece had an assistant. My sister’s friend who would wipe her finger off after every frosting. She would hold her hands out and get them wiped. Too Funny.
My kiddo is not in to many of these pictures as he decided that after the first few cookies he was going to go “slow” because he was going to Grandma’s to decorate next Monday. I think he was pacing himself.
so this weekend… My hubby got told “Dad you got a double eye roll on that” which made me giggle and this morning I was going through the backpack and said what do you do with this? Put your nose through it and it was a rudolph with slits cut in it. So I put my nose through. He kept giggling and rolled his eyes “MOM that’s ridiculous put it on the door handle.” Oh ahaha. And then we have a new Christmas tree topper which he made in school. It was super cute and he was happy to put it up. I gotta say I am loving the homemade decorations.
We worked on lots of crafts and holiday gifts. I had to get a small propane torch for one. haha.! Yeah! New tools. My hubby picked out it for me. I am sure most men would be like WHAT? Are you kidding? Not my hubby… “You want a small torch to melt some things? Sure no problem. This is your best one probably for what you need. ” love my hubby. In fact for one of our first Christmases, I asked for a pocket knife. I still have it and wear it regularly when I am working on stuff. A MUST for Christmas morning. Let me tell you. I showed it to a guy friend of mine when he asked what I was getting for Christmas. he looked at my then boyfriend and said “ARE YOU CRAZY?” haha. I like to think Crazy in Love. pretty fun.
So since we took the time to work on crafts and other things we did alot of finishing decorating and other things. Really just nice. My son and I worked on the gifts for his teacher and assistance. We are giving them this week so I will take pictures and post them this week. It was fun and easy and he did a big part of it.
Well I better run. Have to get a few errands done and a few more files for the QMC> Did I tell you that the Oct-Dec membership will stay open til mid January so everyone can make it through the holiday and not worry about downloads.
We have big news coming up in January at VDBC! Kinda exciting and fun. So don’t forget to keep an eye on us!
Also the forum is still running weekly challenges. And this weeks is show your favorite holiday colors. So don’t forget to check in and see what you can pick up!
Okay my rambling is done. Have a great Monday! Have a great week!
Enjoy!

etching with Chris’s files

December 10, 2009 By Chris Durnan

I wanted to dress up these plain little bowls before giving them as a little santa gift. I used the snowflake from Chris’s Cupcake Wrappers Winter file found here. If I had more time, I’d add more snowflakes to each one, but I need to get these delivered tomorrow.
