lost and found moment…

April 25, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I have this super cute little box filled with little vials filled with blingy goodness… also called heatset rhinestones. .. I have plans for my t-shirt for Scout Camp in a few weeks. I tore apart my studio. I vowed to go through the boxes and mess. to get rid of the piles of paper that seem to migrate to my studio from the house. I looked and looked. I leaned back in my chair to close my eyes and think… what did I work on last? my blingy pocket on my jeans. I should know… where did I put them… and I opened my eyes and looked down and there they were on the floor they had slid off the table and landed on the carpet luckily and not spilling everywhere. Wew. all is right again. thank you thank you! Just had to share my relief. And now I should make good on the clean the studio thing… or at least make it a goal for finishing by the end of June.  yes I will get some of it cleaned up… for now I think I need a piece of chocolate…

Hope you’re having a great day!
Enjoy!

LO Share: Beach mini album – page 11

April 23, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Sometimes I start out a page with an idea to use a specific cutter file; but sometimes, I’m not intending to use one at all.  That was the case on this mini album page.  Then… it just needed a little something.  So I used just a piece of the file “Swimming in the Lake” #CD00748 from Visual Designs by Chris.  I cut the grass – one of them twice.  I pop dotted two of them.  Other materials are netted ribbon, a seashell charm, pearls from Michaels, words from Authentique, ribbon and a designer paper clip.  Love these pics of my girls.  I wanted a nice photo of them at the beach but then Savannah started being silly and one thing led to another.   *smile*  I just kept clicking the shutter button.

This is page 11.  The previous page 11 was page 12.  *wink*

LO Share: Beach mini album page 3 – using #CD00869

April 23, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Another page in the beach mini album.  Patterned Paper is old Studio K from a K & Co pad.  Words are from Authentique.  Fiskars scallop border punch.  Pearls and crochet border were recently purchased from Michaels.  A few buttons from my stash threaded with a yellow thread.  All about those little details!  The cool summer scene is cut using #CD00869 from Visual Designs by Chris found here:

Beach Mini album

April 21, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I am creating a mini album for our family vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama, in 2009. I used some Accu-cut dies at my local scrapbook store to cut the pages placing a piece of chipboard between the cardstock to give it some bulk.  I think the pages are about 8 1/2 x 5 1/2.  The cardstock I used is textured with a white core so I sanded the edges and the entire surface of the paper. Many of the images are mounted with foam squares to add dimension and texture to the album.

On the cover page, I used a seahorse and seashell from Packet of Seashells from VDBC #CD00284 that can be found here:
http://www.visualdesignsbychris.com/store/product.php?productid=16138&cat=0&page=1

I am doing the pages out of order but on page 11, I used two different seashells and a star fish from that same file.  There are several images in this file so I will be able to use it throughout the album.

Cover page:  I used a netty kind of ribbon, a beach coaster that I have had for ages, a shell charm, a “family” sticker that is old old old.  Remember slide mounts!  I stamped this one with a sand stamp then printed the word Vacation on my printer.  Wrapped some white jute rope that will be able to be used on the page on other side as well.  I used a pink heart mini brad on the seahorse and to get a visual triange of hearts and pink, I added two Heidi Grace heart stick pins.  They are stuck in the foam square that is attaching the coaster to the page.  Behind the coaster is some cardboard with the backing torn off and barn white acrylic paint dry brushed onto it.  To include the theory of threes, I also dry brushed the shell and the seahorse.

Page 11:  used the netty ribbon again.  The PP throughout will be some ancient K&Co. paper from a pad that I bought maybe a decade ago.  It will help pull the album together to use papers from the same line.  A few mini brads, some word stickers, a little bling from the $1 bin at Michaels but it happened to be half off.  Bargain!

Will share more as I get them finished.

Scout – Fish Match

April 18, 2012 By Chris Durnan

If you follow my blog you know I am a Scout Den leader. I like to post my projects here because it is hard sometimes to figure out something that is easy and active for a bunch of kids who are there because they want to learn about something new.

I created a fish match game. I cut 4.25×5.5 cards to put information about fish on each card and the Scouts would need to match the fish with their description. I put these on a binder ring so they would hold together.
At our next den meeting, I plan to set the clock for 2 minutes and hand out a card to each Scout and they will have to find their match. This will be their buddy for the den meeting. As we are trying to work on the buddy system before camp and make it something natural and a reflex to not go anywhere without a buddy.

And luckily when we went fishing the Arizona Game and Fish was there so I could grab a couple of their regulations for our meeting and in the back they had sketches of fish and their descriptions. So Awesome.
I cut up some and put

And of course because after our den meeting this is going in my “game box” I added the key on the back so I would remember. My kids are whips if I put the the letter A on each one that match eachother they would figure it out and just match letters. so I did A and 1. so a letter and number. but in case I am not the only one digging in the game box for something for the kids to do. I added it to the back of the cards.

I hope you enjoy my little projects.

This project is good for the Wolf Elective fishing in helping kids recognize different fish.
As well as the fishing belt loop for cub scouts.
Enjoy!

Things I find in my freezer…

April 16, 2012 By Chris Durnan

The conversation went something like this…
Mom: ahhh…what is this?
D: what? Oh … Yeah he’s frozen in Carbonite
M: in my freezer?
D: yeah. ( big smile) I’ll get him out later (takes tupperware container and puts back in Freezer and walks away.) (I pause as he wonders away and he looks back and says..)
D: use your imagination.

My thoughts… Wow what did he do to get frozen. I mean he’s a lego guy his arms dont even move in full range. You have to turn his head to change his mood to the backside and then he can see his own backside. Wew.
It’s always interesting. Love my life.

Mom of an 8 year old boy tip of the day… .. Don’t ever confuse Carbonite of Star Wars with the Cryptonite of Super Man. You will get an eye roll. haha. a big one

Have a fantastic day!
Enjoy!

Games & Headphones Cutter File

April 12, 2012 By Chris Durnan

First let me say… HAPPPPPY Birthday to my fantastic son. Who is 8 today. I cannnnot believe Dr. D is 8 .Just fantastic.  Well on to my offering to you for his birthday. We like to celebrate birthdays by giving!.
Enjoy!

This file was created for an Easter basket gift. Welll… woops… Here is my Easter story…

The gift that gave the bunny away.

My son went through his Easter basket after finding it on the treasure hunt with my awesome hubby. I made this box for his easter basket. Threw it in.  Perfect box for his Nintendo ds games and headphones for it.
He smiled at me as he went through his basket and said “Mom does the bunny have a vinyl machine to?” I smiled and said. I wouldn’t know but maybe.
He smiled back.
Wooops. Yep I know the Easter Bunny is short lived. However, I found it humorous that my KNK addiction almost gave away the Easter Bunny!
Enjoy!

Scouts – Teepees

April 10, 2012 By Chris Durnan

So you may see me type out Teepee in many different ways in this post Tipi etct. When I looked up how to spell it, it said that the word was spelling in many different way. I found this quite interesting. I love to read and words are just awesome. I use Overdrive to download from my library. I love that I can rest my finger on the word and a dictionary icon will pop up. This is awesome. But I type fast so sometimes I use the wrong version of a word. Okay well… back to my post.
In the section of the Wolf book are a few Native American Electives, We wrapped some of these up together. We made teepees out of Brown  and paper and then drums. I collected containers and painted them all yellow. We drew our native american stories on the sides of our drums. We used Bic Mark-It Markers. (Love these. I have a whole little tin bucket filled with them. just the great colored lids make me happy. One of the den parents was oohing and ahhing them. just awesome!). Then we sat in a circle on the floor and read our story and banged on our drums. The boys seemed to have a great time.
The close one is my sons and the back one is my prototype. I could have cut this on my Klic-n-kut, but decided to let the boys hand cut them out.
In order to put the tents together, we took 5 pipe cleaners 6 inches long.
Then twisted the tops and spread those out. After cutting out the teepee pattern, we then drew symbols on our teepees that showed who we are. (many of the teepee designs had to do with wars and battles according to what I read and my 7 year old Wolves haven’t really been in battle. So we drew images about ourselves or about the things we like to do on weekends.
The tab in the picture folds over two of the pipe cleaners and can taped or stapled which ever is easiest. In the effort of time we stapled ours.

The most difficult part for the boys in writing a story was there was no “the” and words like that for perfect sentences. I found it very interesting to see.

It was a great night and we got to make noise beating our drums and telling our stories. So fun.
I didn’t get a chance to get this pattern converted to many file types so I will repost this with the file to cut the teepees in the next few weeks. So come on back!
Enjoy!
Chris
