picture frame using Chris Durnan’s cutter file

March 5, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I used Chris’s digital cutter file “Love” to decorate this picture frame. You can find it here.

I printed the picture with a blurred effect in photo shop and added the cut pieces to the mat in the picture frame – which I found at the Dollar Tree. I just love how this turned out!

Converting AI to MTC super easy! – Video Tut

February 28, 2012 By Chris Durnan

I have been asked how to take an AI file to an MTC file. Especially for my older files before the svg era. Yep I’ve been around that long. Fun Fun. love the growth and creativity. Suprisingly it is very easy to do and shouldn’t be a worry as you have upgraded to a new machine or want to use Make the Cut.

Here is the video link
This should open right in your browser.

You need the AI file
The inkscape program
and Make the Cut.

Here are some links…

Scouts – catapult/recipe card holder

February 24, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Well we started out with good intentions. We were gonna make the recipe card holders in the back of the Scout Wolf Den handbook. After watching my den members stare at me totally puzzled and one even said with a scrunched up face… “What’s a recipe card holder?” I paused after the question and said you know what….let’s do catapults instead. So they all smiled and nodded in happy agreement. A catapult they could understand. So we took the basic plans for the recipe card holder, but instead flipped over the clothespin and gorilla glued a craft/wide popsicle stick to it and a sobe bottle cap which I put a little blue dot in to cover up the saying inside. Made awesome catapults and we used them on the table for Blue and Gold to show what our den was up to. So much fun!!! And happy boys… And I didnt have to explain what a recipe card holder was 🙂 .
This idea incorporated some plans from the Disney family fun website and also the recipe card holder from the wolf scout book.
Enjoy! Chris

Lego Robotics Display

February 23, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Those visiting my blog know that I am a Lego Robotics assistant coach. That means I am the paper pusher. My Son’s school district has a day at the fairgrounds where each school and its clubs etc show off their pride with a display. This is our Lego Robotics display. Yes that is our Lego Man Pinata from my sons birthday. The Robotic kids projects boards and their lego setups. The Lego bricks under the Pinata Man were made by my friend Lora. Fantastic! It was a bright busy and fun display and drew lots of attention. It was awesome to work on it with such a great group of people.

Below is my Son’s project for his team. and there is my Lego guy cut file. Some of the cuts were taken from last years project and some were new from the Coach’s cutting machine. All in all came together and was a fantastic day!

I am proud  of my son so just had to share!

Enjoy!

Chore Chart – Printable

February 22, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Around our house being part of the family is doing some chores. Some are chores that you do just because you are part of the family and some are extras above and beyond. A chore chart makes it easy to track.

I made this sheet for my son who is trying to save for our summer trip to California. When we go on trips, our son has his own money to spend as he wish. How much he has entirely depends on how much he has earned. Here is a fillable form similar to the chart I created for our son. You can add your own chores to each line or print it in blank and have your child fill it in. or maybe it’s for you?? I won’t tell. The download link is here. This is a zip and for your personal use, by downloading you agree to this.

*Sorry fixed the link**

 Enjoy!

Blue and Gold and tissue pompoms

February 21, 2012 By Chris Durnan

As is true in most Cub Scout packs. You are always looking for a way to decorate on the cheap, but nice. This years Blue and Gold was my job to coordinate as the Wolf Den Leader. I started with blue and  gold table covers, 36 balloons, a beautiful cake done by a phenomenal cake maker, centerpieces by the wolf den scouts and these tissue pompoms for extra punch. I wish I had gotten more pictures. So If I can find some from friends who went will post those later. Here are some pictures.

This is our cake table. The cake was delicious I was told and was created by Kim. Her marshmallow fondant is a begging situation in our family. My guys eyes light up at just the thought. And the cupcakes I was told were phenomenal. Needless to say I have passed on her number to many. I think as a Scout you should do your best to support local businesses. And the tissue pompoms were part of the display. I would not use yellow again. To translucent of a color. But for 8.00 I made 16 of them with help from friends. I set them up into the accordian fold and my friend Heidi came and pulled them apart for me while I worked on other setup.

I took 5 sheets of the 20×20 tissue paper and folded them in accordian style
Then I cut the end in a half circle to give it a more finished look.
My friend did the pull apart, but I did one to see. First fan out the accordian and then pull the tissue towards the center. To start I wasn’t happy with the ones I did, but as always Heidi just foofs things just right.

Here is the one I did at home to test run.

All in all filled the table a little more. and I thought came out pretty nice.
The first photo was taken by our Pack Photographer, Shane. I cannot express how phenomenal it is to ask a parent who has a passion for photography  to catch so many of our activities. We have a private shutterfly account and he uploads the photos and the parents can save for their own memories. If you don’t have a Pack Photographer, find a parent who has a fancy camera, and beg them to go to work for you. It is just awesome. And this way you can print the photos for the end of the year and stick to a board and display or use for registration roundup. I don’t panic to get photos of my son as I run around and helping at pack or den meetings. I am one to want to capture those memories. So I can do my jobs and he gives me something to cherish afterwards with phenomenal photos to remember with. Love it!

Enjoy!

rambling post…

February 20, 2012 By Chris Durnan

Yep. It’s been a bit of a nutzy few weeks. Ups, Downs, lows, highs, curveballs… But most of all lots of time with my son and hubby. So just fantastic.

I have been thinking about our food and trying to reinvent as always and get away from the processed. So I have been reading a lot about raw veggie recipes. I read a huge article about raw vegetables and our needs for them and how some cannot even remember when they ate raw veggies last. So I kept mental note of raw veggies I have eaten. Bountiful Baskets has heirloom tomatoes. I am addicted to tomatoes love them. So gonna have to order some of these.

Also, thinking about my next qmc file. I have a few in the works. Which to pick as next?

And the rodeo is here in town. I love the rodeo. Next weekend should be fun but lots of busy!

And the den leader roll for Scouts is fun fun and busy busy. Tomorrow I will post some of the room decorations from our Blue and Gold. The Wolf Den was in charge so we had lots of fun creating lots of projects!

Have a wonderful Monday!
Enjoy!
Chris
