Liquid to Soup Yeah! Or wait is that the same thing?

August 1, 2008 By Chris Durnan

I don’t think I have ever been excited about soup or applesauce for that matter, but today is the day I get to migrate from Slim-fast vanilla gluten free to a thicker consistency like soups or very very blended other foods. Mostly soup. That is exciting. I have realized that all the protein shakes etc come in Sweet flavors. I am just not great with the sweet thing. I am a salt person. So I sit here with my can of slimfast for the morning and usually only make it through half the can. Then I will think about what I can have for lunch.

I am only able to get about 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food down. My stomach was reduced in size to about a baseball because they had to sew it on to itself to create a knot. This way it won’t migrate upward again. Last night I got into coughing fit and thought for sure I would rip something. However, I have a new found ability to just breathe. It is mahvelous! I worry about overfilling my little tummy and if it will rip the stitches holding it all together. So I am going with small small meals a few times a day. In eating a cup of Mott’s AppleSauce last night I ate about half and thought I had food crammed into my throat. So I slowed down and waited a bit and then finished it. Yeah! But I was stuffed.

So I think I am going to go buy a baseball to keep in my purse. Can’t decide if I should decorate it. What do you think? I could put THIS IS YOUR TUMMY all over it. Or positive phrases or Watch the stitches, eat from small dishes. Or I could just leave it plain and put it in my purse or leave it on the kitchen counter for a reference. Have to think on this. Either way. My hubby will smile and say your a nut.

So I am uncomfortable in a manageable way, not alot of pain, just some uncomfort and things are less and less foggy. Which means I will soon be back to designing. Yeah! Tomorrow I think we are gonna go walk around a local farmers market. It is a very tiny one, but it will be good to get out of the house and get some fresh air. And not be a long involved trip.
I just wanted to stop in and say thank you to everyone again. Your emails have been highlights of my day.
Have a wonderful wonderful day and weekend!
Enjoy!
Chris
PS The night before I went in my hubby put up pegboard which I painted first and new lights and a few other things in my newly renovated craft room. It is awesome!! I need to organize things, but I can’t wait to show some pictures. Then we get to working on his home office. Lovin’ it.

Chris, it is good to know things went very well. Take it easy and enjoy the quiet time. Hopefully you will have a quick recovery and be feeling great in no time at all.

Having had stomache surgery myself I feel your pain. No need to buy a baseball (unless you want to) just look at your fist – it’s about the size of a baseball. If you need to increase protien try UpCalD – it is flavorless and you can just add it to your soup.
